Families for Children Program Activities

Program activities in the second year were focused on implementation of the Local Action Plans developed by the pilot sites, leading to the introduction of model family-based and family-centered services in the area of prevention/family preservation and foster care/adoption.

Most of the grant projects supported in the 2nd  year were aimed at working directly with vulnerable families and children. A special emphasis was put on family preservation. Integrating services for HIV-affected families and children remained a high program priority.

Technical assistance and training efforts, both on the local and national levels, addressed the professional development needs of service providers and decision makers in supporting them in the implementation of effective and good practices in family-based family centered services.

The following results were achieved within the second program year:

69 grant projects have been supported for the total of $672,271. Among those are 19 HIV/AIDS projects for $ 288,823

Through the FCP Grant Program:

·         4,788 people, including decision makers, service providers, parents and children participated in various training activities on family-based care, prevention of abandonment and other subjects, conducted by FCP grantees

·         17 community groups were established

·         970 children and 593 families received psychosocial support services made possible through FCP grant program

·         216 cases of child abandonment/removal from parental custody were prevented

Practical guidelines on foster care were developed by the FCP Child Welfare Task Force, reviewed by the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports and recommended for piloting in the FCP project sites

In collaboration with the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports, FCP trained 92 regional trainers on foster care who by now trained 220 prospective foster parents.

A pilot adoption survey was conducted. The survey findings are used to improve the adoption process and promote adoption by Ukrainian families.
